Foley = Fun

So this time around I’m doing something new with my video project.  I’m putting a big emphasis on Foley work, that is, the art of creating lifelike sound effects to be synchronized with film.

So I basically have the center of my room set up as a Foley stage, replete with kitchen utensils, cloth, ropes (for wind whipping/kung fu noises) and other goodies.  I’ll probably bring in some celery this week: celery + mic proximity effect = any bone crunching sound you’d want.

Level 2 gets the real fun part.  They’re going to actually perform their foley work in realtime with their chosen clip.  They’re going to get as many passes as they want but it must all be pre-planned.  I’ll be using a single AKG c3000 to capture it.  And yes, I’ll be taking lots of video – especially if anyone uses something crazy to make their sounds.

P.S.  This post marks the 1-year anniversary of willkuhn.com (!)
